So, what is a wholesale cost model? Wayfair will purchase inventory directly from you at the wholesale cost and then will sell the product to consumers with their own markups. What does this mean for vendors? This is a great way to get paid quicker and eliminates the need to handle transactions directly to your customers. With this model, Wayfair handles the shipping and handling of the product directly to the customer.

Oh, you thought we forgot about Amazon? No way. We couldn’t ignore a platform projected to swallow a 50% market share of the entire e-commerce space by the end of 2021. With such massive exposure and flexibility in how you run your store, Amazon is a great place to consider selling your products. 

As of April 2021, Amazon sellers are no longer limited by ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number)-level quantity limits. This means that you have more control over inventory and shipping. Amazon also provides flexibility by offering two different plans depending on your selling needs. If you are just getting started and not set on the products you are looking to sell, an individual plan may be right for you. If you’re established and have a set product with a sizable amount of orders each month, the professional plan would be for you. Amazon also offers their own dashboard so you can closely monitor your performance. 

Now, as amazing as Amazon is, there are tradeoffs. Amazon is massive, and being massive also comes with some difficulties. Along with the hyper-aggressive competition, Amazon offers little support to their sellers because of the scale of their platform. Fees are also something to consider. Amazon FBA charges a monthly fee that takes quite a bit of your revenue, and if your products aren’t selling, additional warehouse storage fees can add up.
